Serbia Davis Cup captain Viktor Troiki has slammed the treatment of Novak Djokovic after he was booed off court following his retirement at the Australian Open. After losing the first set of his semi-final against Alexander Zverev, the 24-time Grand Slam champion was unable to continue and handed his German rival a walkover win.

A week after a hamstring injury ended his run at the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic, 37, withdrew from Serbia's Davis Cup first-round qualifier, the country's tennis federation said on Tuesday, a move captain Viktor Troicki said has "weakened" the team.

Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from Serbia's Davis Cup tie against Denmark because of a hamstring injury. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was booed off court by some Australian Open fans last week when he retired with the issue after losing the first set of his semi-final against Alexander Zverev.

Novak Djokovic has been defended by Serbia's Davis Cup captain as he called for an Australian broadcaster to be fired.

With Novak Djokovic's decision to withdraw, Serbia will be without its star player in the first-round qualifying tie, which will begin on January 31.
