Macy’s has kicked off its plan of closing down several stores across the country. The retail giant previously announced the move in February 2024 while revealing their Bold New Chapter strategy. The closures of “underproductive” stores come as part of the plan.

The closure is the latest drama on a stretch of East Market Street that’s been the focus of a recent and fierce civic debate over the approval of a proposed arena for the Sixers.

Macy's released the locations of 66 stores slated to be closed. Seven are located in Florida. They are: Boca Raton Furniture, at 9339 Glades Road in Boca Raton, was included in an earlier closure announcement by Macy's. The company said clearance sales at Macy's stores will begin in January and will run for approximately 8 to12 weeks.

In all, 64 Macy's stores in several states, including Florida, New York, California, and Pennsylvania, are set to close, according to a listing of online closures. Most stores are expected to close in the first three months of 2025. The list of closings can be found here.
