Much to the joy of some and displeasure of others, Nashville and Middle Tennessee are likely to get slammed with several inches of snow shutting down roadways and schools. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather warning Thursday until 6 a.

A winter storm warning has been issued for all of Middle Tennessee. While most areas could receive between three to six inches of snow on Friday, some areas could see as much as seven inches.

Nashville is expected to get anywhere from 6 to 8 inches of snow Friday as a winter storm system moves across the state.

Snow is expected to begin mid-morning for East Tennessee cities such as Knoxville, Gatlinburg and Oneida, and in early afternoon for those further north, closer to the Virginia state line, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm will bring "widespread snow accumulations" with a mixture of sleet and freezing rain possible south of Interstate 40 with "light ice accumulation possible."

Snow has already begun to fall in Memphis and Nashville. Soon, the snowstorm will arrive in East Tennessee. Flurries are forecast to start falling in East Tennessee late Friday morning through the early afternoon,
